After a few busy weeks, things are starting to slow down for me. I can take a breather before it’s nutcrackers again. It’s that calm before the holiday storm state. With that aforementioned feeling of extra time, some of my more hard-to-reconcile thoughts are creeping in. Thanks brain.

Come the middle of November I have the urge to hit pause before I press play for the holiday party season. December is fast approaching and I’m admittedly feeling the pressure already. Between the dinners, drinks, and gifts, I have to get it together.

One of my most treasured past times is hunting for a deal. Now I may not be Sia, though I have a girl crush on her, but I do love cheap thrills. That we have in common. We do come at it from different angles though: she likes to party whereas I love to shop.

With all off the alleged sexual assault details coming out of Hollywood many people are shocked. The list keeps getting longer. Some have claimed that they didn’t see it happen. Or that it didn’t happen to them. That’s fine. I urge you to believe the ones that say they have been assaulted in some way.

The other morning as I was turbo vacuuming my home in my pyjamas, I wondered why I was still wearing them. I woke up hours ago and could have put on other clothes. Granted, due to my intense cleaning style, I get sweaty so I didn’t want muck up fresh clothes. If I’m being really honest, when I’m at home, I just love to be in pyjamas.

In the aftermath of the ruthless terrorist attack on Las Vegas festival fans, it still may be hard to process it. I’m still shook. Las Vegas is a beloved weekend away for me for many years. Las Vegas is fun and carefree. At least it used to be.

As my circles continue to talk about the NFL protests of the rampant police brutality and how that is getting misconstrued to some as a slight against the American flag, I found the need to try a new way of getting through to the stubborn and misguided. Some people just refuse to educate themselves on the true purpose of the protests. There are only so many times a person can slap his/her/their own forehead before it bruises. I need a new angle. Perhaps laughing at hypocrisy will help?

Throughout my advertising and styling career, I’ve spent many days on set. My experience included commercials for TV, product videos for online content, or short PSAs. Mostly shorter format - five minutes or less – to convey the desired story. Being invited to join a Costume Department for a film production was new to me yet something I delightfully accepted.

Fuck trends. That’s my report. Okay, wait a minute. Taking a step back, no I’m not really telling you to stop enjoying looking what’s new out there. I’m not advocating that you stop shopping or caring about how you look. No, no, no.What I am advocating is getting off a crazy train that is fuelled solely by manic, toxic trend coal.

Did Sunday night’s Emmy’s feel different to you? Me too. People wanted to watch – and not just the red carpet - but the actual awards show. This year had a tonne of former film folks taker their turn at TV. Dare I say TV is no longer considered the cutesy kid sister of film?

My mind has been all over the place recently. Things just seem to keep escalating, building a shit storm atop the shit storm. Dwelling in the chaos and cruelty is not a friend of mine. Rather, I’m more of the move-forward-and-eventually-you’ll-feel-more-positive kind.

Well, September is here. Back to school, back to work, or just back to it. Post Labour Day, Calgary – and many other places – seem to desire a routine to make the most of the latest season. The relaxed, chill vibe of is gone. Fall is coming; it’s time to rise and grind.
