As vaccinations continue to go into arms and spaces open up in Alberta, I’m actually starting to think about getting together with people, in public, and possibly indoors for the first time in a very long time. But what shall I wear?

Smack dab in the middle of June I hope you are all thinking two things: Yay it’s Pride Month and get me into summer clothing. Throw on an oversize white dress shirt or a loose fit, brightly coloured dress and you’re there. Badda boom badda bing.

It’s been a hard go. But like most hard things, it’e getting better with time. My spirits keep rising as more and more folks are eligible to get their vaccines. And guess what, it’s my turn. Stab me silly, Alberta Health Services. I’ve finally got somewhere to go so you bet your stilettos I’m getting all dressed up.

Every day we are bombarded with mixed messages: “hustle” “no one will do it for you” “you better work” while at the same time “no job is worth your happiness” “toxic positivity is real” and the more general, “take care.” The confusion is overwhelming. Cue Adam Lambert’s anthem, “What do you want from me?”

As a shopper, stylist, and wardrobe speaker I often get asked, “What trends do you love? How about one you don’t love?” I can rattle off more “hates” faster than an auctioneer can try and sell cattle. But that’s so negative, no?

I identify as a bit of a paradox: I like order and logic and often times that leads to a great policy or recommendation. On the other hand, if it’s BS after asking why it exists and the owner can’t explain it to my liking, I’m not much of a rule for rules sake person. What rules?

It’s Pisces season in the astrological calendar and I am all in my feelings. As a fellow fish, this time of year feels so me. Along with getting excited for my near birthday, I tend to think deeply about the things I care about.

Whoever penned that phrase, “Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life,” only knew part of that ideal story. While I do believe in the sentiment, find what you enjoy and do that, get to that top of Maslow, everybody, I don’t think the author knew about the implications on everyday work compliments of COVID-19.

It’s been a week since the American Presidential Staff inauguration and the dust has settled. At least a tiny bit. As folx with a sense of humanity breathed a squeaking sigh of relief – as there is so much work to be done – they also got a show: a fashion show.

I think I did it too. Like a naïve puppy getting its first real scolding, 2021 has hit like a tonne of emotional bricks. See, I knew that it would not be any different aside from the dates changing over, but I think I wanted it to. Pretty natural considering our collective dire situation.

Christmas encapsulates everything I love in life: booze, decorations, family and friends, food, gatherings, gifts, glitz, planned outfits, movies, music, shopping, and years other than this, all of that can happen at a destination of your choice. How good would a beach be right now? I’m looking at you, 2021.

When I first heard the headline that Whole Foods was banning all employees – including staffers above the 51st parallel – from wearing poppies this year I was a bit confused. “Can’t wear a poppy at work?” I asked out loud to the ether. Why?
